BODY AESTHETIC IN LUCIAN FREUD'S PAİNTİNGS

Abstract

Human body has been a subject in many sciences and disciplines in both physical and aesthetical terms for ages. Painting art has used human body in several forms and objectified it thereby considering it a material of art. Body has not only been used in a figurative way but also in a way to reflect the psychology of that body in art. Artists have mostly used this rich material, that is to say human body and its psychology in their arts and presented the viewers a huge variety in that sense. Being one of the artists who used human body and human psychology in his art, Lucian Freud portrayed human body and human psychology as in daily life, that is, without putting it in a certain form or pose, such as somebody in sleeping, resting, sitting position. Human beings in his art consisted of his family members and close friends. His preference of the persons whose inner world psychology he was familiar with and his ability in painting and anatomy reveals the fact that his works are highly realistic and significant in aesthetic terms.
