RELATED ART INQUIRY WITHIN LEE MINGWEI PROJECTS

Abstract

While art creates areas of liberation against historical developments, sometimes with a pioneering new discourse and sometimes with opposing discourses, in every period of social change, on the other hand, it has been in the existing system or has been a part of the system. Conceptualized by Duchamp, art took a stance against the destructive effect of capitalism with different art practices that emerged in the following years. The new living conditions offered by technology to people caused people to become increasingly lonely, shifted socialization to virtual environments and transformed human relations into symbolic forms based on consumption. As a result of all these developments, art, which questions the world at every moment, has evolved into another form within these new production conditions. While art was first God-Man, then Man-Object relations or encounters, in the 1990s it is now positioned on Human Relations or encounters. With their works, the artists avoided representing anything and aimed to create new sociality models and new areas of intimacy. Nicolas Bourriaud put forward the concept of "relational aesthetics" for these artistic practices based on mutual activity, togetherness and relationality. In this research, relational art, which deals with communication and human relations between people as an art object, was developed by Lee Mingwei, an artist born in Taiwan in 1964, Guernica in the Sand (Guernica Sand 2006), Repairing Project (The Mending Project 2009) and Food Project (The Dining Project 1997). tried to be dealt with in his works. In the research, literature review technique was applied.
