ANALYSIS OF GUSTAVE KLIMT AND EGON SCHIELE'S PORTRAIT OF FRIEDERIKE MARIA BEER ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH ART CRITICAL METHOD

There are many similarities between Symbolism, in which artists shape their personal thoughts, and the Art Nouveau art movement, which developed under the influence of the Industrial Revolution and formed a front against all art products. The decorative qualities of the Art Nouveau art movement are also included in the works of the Symbolists, which they describe in an allegorical structure. Gustave Klimt, one of the leading figures of Symbolism and Art Nouveau movements, and Egon Schiele, one of the important representatives of Expressionism, who shaped his art under his influence and later created his artistic style that reflects himself, is included in this study. Klimt depicted "Portrait of Friederike Maria Beer" in 1916 and Schiele in 1914 with his own interpretation. In this study, "Portrait of Friederike Maria Beer" was analyzed using E. B. Feldmann's investigative art criticism method. The portrait made by both artists was analyzed in line with the analysis of the artwork. The methods of investigative art criticism, which are the steps of description, analysis, interpretation and judgment, were used in the analysis of the works. After the analysis of the two mentioned works, the reflection of the interaction between the two artists on their works, the similarities and differences between the works are discussed in the conclusion and discussion section of the study.
