Speed and Movement in the Works of Umberto Boccioni

The Futurism movement, which was founded with the declaration published by Marinetti, an Italian poet, contains the concepts of speed and movement at its core. The Futurism movement, which takes the events that happen at the same time as the subject and includes the audience in the event, has been put forward with the concern of bringing the fourth dimension effect to the picture. Translated into Turkish as the term "futurism", this movement is based on an approach that has never been seen before and includes violence and destruction at its core. This movement, which completely rejects the past, focuses only on the future and movement. Umberto Boccioni, who is the most important and representative of the artists who produced works in this movement, handled the phenomenon of speed and movement as the evolution of fascist thought into a work of art in his works. Bocconi, who freed himself from the patterns of the past by bringing movement to his works with the contribution of the use of light, as been in an effort to prove to his audience how an inanimate and stagnant canvas or object/sculpture is transformed into visual energy. In this study, which was carried out within the framework of literature research and visual research methods, examples of Boccini's works were handled and these works were examined with an interpretive approach within the framework of formalist art criticism
