The Phenomenon Of Sculpture On The Axis Of Existence and Nothingness

Sculpture is defined as a mass or entity that creates a concept or emotion based on a phenomenon with aesthetic concerns. When the definitions of sculpture are examined, the first condition is that it must be an entity. Whichever question, intervention or effect falls on the artist's mind while designing his sculpture, he leaves traces of his own identity in the work he creates within these questions. The most fundamental question for the artist at this point is, why am I sculpting? Considering that it starts with, who am I to deepen this question into it? question. In this context, it is possible to say that the most basic movement of the existentialist approach constitutes the most important step of the process of individuation and identity formation of man.

In this study, first of all, the concepts of being and nothingness will be examined in the context of existentialist approaches and existentialist art and artist definitions will be mentioned. Then, within the scope of the study, the place of the statue on the axis of existence and nothingness will be sought. In the case of Alberto Giacometti, the relationship between existentialist sculpture and artist will be examined with the views of Jean Paul Sartre and as a result, it is aimed to understand the relationship of sculpture with being.
