Bulunuşu, tarih öncesi devirlerin kapanıp yeni bir çağın başlangıcını sağlayacak kadar önemli olan yazı, günümüze gelene kadar oldukça büyük değişimlere uğramıştır. Tarihte bu derece büyük bir önemi olan yazı, sanat tarihinde tipografiye dönüşmüş ve grafik tasarımın ayrı bir dalı olarak incelenecek niteliğe sahip olmuştur. Yazının bulunmasıyla ortaya çıktığını söylemenin yanlış olmayacağı tipografi; font, punto, renk ve boşluk gibi unsurlarla oluşturulan formdur. Tipografi, içeriği sadece yazı olan bir görsel ve resim olarak da tanımlanabilir. Tipografik bir tasarımda önemli olan öncelikle konuya uygun yazı karakteri seçimidir. Bir korku filmi afişi üzerindeki tipografide kullanılan yazı karakteri profesyonel bir banka reklam afişindeki tipografide kullanılırsa izleyici karşısında doğru bir izlenim bırakmaz. Çalışmanın amacı; bir tasarım alanı üzerinde kullanılan tipografinin önemini örnek tasarımlarla vurgulamak, tipografik tasarımcı ve tipografiye yönelen öğrenciler için bir rehber oluşturmaktır. Bu çalışmada yöntem olarak; kitap, tez, makale ve online içerikleri içeren literatür taraması yapılmıştır. Kısaca tipografinin tarihine ve fontun önemine değinilerek, fontlar konulara göre kategorize edilmiş ve tipografik tasarımlar üzerinden örneklerle değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak; tasarım alanı üzerinde kullanılacak yazı karakteri seçimi, tasarımın doğru kitleye ulaşması ve mesajı anlamlı bir şekilde ifade etmesi açısından oldukça önemli olduğu kanısına varılmıştır.

The writing, which is so important that is began and closed the prehistoric eras, has undergone considerable changes until today. Writing, which has such a great importance in history, has the quality to be studied as a separate branch of graphic design by turning into typography in the history of art. It would not be wrong to say that typography, font, font size, color and space is created by discovery of writing. Typography can also be defined as a visual and image created with text. The importance of typographic design is the choice of the font type suitable for the subject. If a professional bank is used in a typeface on a poster, with the font used in a typography on a horror movie poster, it will not make an accurate impression on the audience. The aim of the study is to emphasize the importance of typography used in a design area with exemplary designs and create a guide for typographic designers and students who turn to typography. As a method in this study; Literature search was conducted including books thesis articles and online contents. Briefly mentioning the history of typography and the importance of the font, sample fonts will be categorized according to the topics and evaluated through typographic example designs. Consequently, it was concluded that the choice of typefaces to be used on the design area is very important in terms of reaching the right audience and expressing the message in a meaningful way.
