Wood was widely used in traditional residential architecture both as a structural material and in complementary architectural elements. Complementary components such as ceilings, cupboards, shelves, window shutters, and doors not only fulfilled their primary functions but were also regarded as decorative elements. Room doors, one of the architectural features where ornamentation was intensively employed in traditional residential architecture, were shaped not only by the climatic characteristics of their regions but also by religious and cultural influences. In particular, room doors positioned at the corners formed by two walls exhibit distinctive characteristics in terms of appearance. Unlike examples opening along the room axis, these doors are notable for the pediments placed on the upper part of the door leaf due to aesthetic considerations. Within the scope of this article, the room doors of traditional houses in Birgi and Bademli were examined in terms of their material, construction techniques, and ornamental features. In addition to these characteristics, the positioning of the doors within the rooms was also emphasized, thereby revealing the distinctive qualities of room doors in traditional civil architecture. Furthermore, the study discusses the reflection of local woodworking craftsmanship specific to the region in Late Ottoman-period houses and mansions located in Birgi and Bademli, settlements of the Ödemiş district.
