Sanat ve teknoloji insanoğlunun evreni ve doğayı kavrama, anlamlandırma ve değiştirme çabalarının sonucu olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Teknoloji insanın doğayla iletişimine aracılık etme ve doğayı dönüştürme işlevini üstlenirken; sanat gerçeklerin kavranıp, daha insana yakışır hale getirmesine yardımcı olur. Bu iki kavram, tarihin her döneminde birbirini etkilemiş ve birlikte gelişmiştir. Öyle ki, sanat ve teknoloji terimlerinin tarihsel kökenine baktığımızda, antik çağlarda her ikisinin tek bir kavram ile ifade edildiklerini görüyoruz. Teknoloji kelimesinin kökeni olan "techne” kelimesi Antik Yunan’da, bugün sanat ve zanaat olarak ayırdığımız kavramlara karşılık olarak kullanılmaktaydı ve imal ve icra etme yeteneği anlamına geliyordu. Rönesans sonrasında, sanat ve zanaat arasındaki ayrım yavaş yavaş belirmeye başlasa da, bugün anladığımız biçimde güzel sanatların ortaya çıkışı ancak onsekizinci yüzyılda gerçekleşmiştir. Sanayi Devrimi ve fotoğrafın icadı sanat tarihine yön veren önemli dönüm noktaları olmuştur. Sanat eserinin tanımı da bu süreçlere bağlı olarak değişmiştir. İçinde bulunduğumuz dijital çağ ile birlikte, sanat yoluyla mekan, zaman ve gerçeklik kavramlarının sorgulandığı bir dönem başlamıştır. Bu dönemde artık sanatçı el becerileriyle değil, tasarımcı yönü ve iletişim becerisiyle öne çıkabilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, tarihsel süreç içinde sanat-teknoloji ilişkisini, çağımız sanatına yön veren teknolojik gelişmeleri ve dijital sanatın öne çıkan türlerini araştırmak; bu alanda üretilen yapıtlara yönelik, olumlu ve olumsuz görüşleri incelemektir.

Art and technology have emerged as a result of efforts to understand, interpret and change the universe and nature of mankind. While the technology mediates communication between human and nature and transforms nature; Art helps to grasp the facts of the real world and make them more decent. These two concepts have influenced and developed together in every period of history. In fact, when we look at the historical background of the terms of art and technology, we see that both are expressed in a single concept in ancient times. The root of the word “technology” derives from an Ancient Greece word “techne”, which was used for art and craft concepts, and it meant the ability to manufacture and execute. The emergence of fine arts took place only in the eighteenth century, and the invention of the Industrial Revolution and photography became important turning points that led to the history of art. Along with the digital age we are in, a period has begun in which the concepts of space, time and reality are questioned through art. In this period, the artist can stand out with his/her design and communication skills instead of craftsmanship. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between art and technology in the historical process, the technological developments leading the art of our age and the prominent types of digital art; to examine positive and negative opinions about works produced in this area.
